St. Hedwig, Texas

Another small rural town that Realty Place specializes in. Nestled in the wildflower hill country of eastern Bexar county, this town is all about local living.

History:

St. Hedwig was originally founded in 1852 by Silesian natives that immigrated from Poland. By 1868, the community built a stone church that today still sits at the center of town. By 1897 the town already had 200 families living in it.

Today the town still holds it Polish roots close, with a strong Polish population at over 50%. Though the population is seemingly small at 2,472 (2017) in comparison to its large total area of 30.1 miles. Apart from San Antonio, St. Hedwig is the only town in Bexar county with that much total land.

Economic Forecast:

With the town’s low unemployment rate and healthy economy, the population has been steadily growing, and is expected to continue to. Future job growth is expected to stay higher than the US average. New subdivisions in the city and its surrounding areas add to the healthy economy. The median home cost is $255,000, with the home appreciation up at 8%.

Activities:

Like surrounding towns of Adkins and China Grove, St. Hedwig’s close proximity to San Antonio allows residents the availability to enjoy the big city scene while residing day-to-day in a country community.
