La Vernia Attractions
La Vernia is a small-town just east of San Antonio. It has a large amount of military living here, due to its convenient location near Brooks AFB, Lackland AFB, Randolph AFB, and Fort Sam Houston AFB.
In this small town, everyone here knows everybody. This makes every outing more enjoyable, as you know you will always see a friend. With these these small-town relationships, everything is a bit more fun. Take the holidays for an example.
Christmas is very special in La Vernia. It is like something out of a Hallmark movie. We show our spirit by our yearly “Winter Wassailing” festival. We also have a wreath contest between local businesses and a big tree lighting ceremony. This ceremony includes a night filled with Santa visits, train rides, movies in the park, and a snow slide. Yes, snow in South Texas!
In the Spring La Vernia is home to one of La Vernia and Wilson County’s most anticipated events, the Bluebonnet Fest. Every year the festival gets kicked off by the La Vernia Lions Club sponsored event, the Miss La Vernia Pageant. After the parent, the newly crowned Miss La Vernia and her Court lead a parade of floats made by local businesses, clubs, and organizations through the town. Everyone then follows up at a carnival, where everyone can have an all around good time.
4th of July is always a big time in La Vernia, as well. During the day, there is food, shopping, and live music- perfect or a festive time. At the end of the night there is a fireworks display in the park that will blow you away.
La Vernia is a great place to live. I may be a bit biased, though, as I chose to live here myself! The family events and the sense of community make La Vernia a place to live, truly like no other.
